So many things. How do you know that there is a museum in North America dedicated entirely to shoes? And for the sneakerheads, it could be more excited, because the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto launched the first major North American retrospective exhibition on the history and culture of sneaker!
The opening will be held on April 25, 2013, the Bata Shoe Museum is Out of the Box: The Rise of Sneaker Culture exhibition will feature 120 sneakers represent 150 years of sneaker culture. From the 19th century to the contemporary iconic shoe, the show will span more than a century, check out one of the "most democratic form of footwear in the 20th century," according to a news article.
"Since the 19th century, sneakers have been closely associated with the expression status and gender," said Senior Curator Elizabeth Semmelhack. "He was very interested in how the sneaker culture is currently associated with a shift in the ideal of masculinity and how, on a call, sneakerfication of men's clothing is defining this change."
For collectors, rare shoes from Adidas, Nike, Reebok, Puma, Converse and archives will be available to ogle. And special loans from music legends including Run DMC, sneaker obsessives Bobbito Garcia (aka Kool Bob Love) and Dee Wells of OSD will also be on display. And if you love luxury sneaker good, do not worry, they've got what you want with gorgeous offerings from Christian Louboutin, Pierre Hardy, Lanvin, and Prada.
